Port & Terminal News
United Arab Shipping Line (UASC) has become the third major shipping line to begin calling at Yilport, Turkey. The shipping line joined MSC and CMA CGM as customers at the terminal, located in Izmit Bay near Istanbul.
The inaugural call was made by UASC vessel Henrike Shepers on 29 January. The carrier’s East-Med Feeder Service (EMF1) will call at Port Said, Ambarli and Yilport on a weekly base.
Mustafa Erkanat, Yilport general co-ordinator, commented: "Our target in Yilport is to give our customers fast and reliable services with our state-of-the art equipment. We have implemented new technologies, which are used for the first time in Turkey. We have been working on improving our berth productivity and crane performance for a year, with new software, a new crane simulator and new gate systems.
"We are at the stage of being able to serve different liners without causing any delay to the vessels either by the means of berthing or operation time, with high productivity. We believe that, with joining of new liners amongst our other customers, we have started to reap the fruits of our new implementations."
