Manzanillo Port Authority (API) is investing US$1.7m in cutting-edge technology. The Mexican port has renewed the systems and equipment of its Maritime Traffic Control Centre (MTCC), including servers and a new arrangement for the internal systems network. New software has also been installed to integrate navigation equipment.
The upgrade cost around US$700,000, including preventive, corrective and evolutional maintenance over the next three years.
API said the main objective of the MTCC was to maintain safety in the port and to reduce the risk of accidents related to navigation vessels and naval equipment, taking into account human life and ocean environment. It also controls, co-ordinates and optimises maritime traffic using strategic planning of ship manoeuvres, offering opportune nautical and meteorological assistance.
The port is also investing $930,000 to establish a new remote radar station on the Punta Campos lighthouse, supplementing existing radar systems at the Federal Port Captaincy building and at Mount El Vigía. "The acquisition and installation of the new radar station will increase detection range to the whole coastline and the navigation zone from south-east to south-west of the port.
The remote station is linked via microwave signals to MTCC, passing through a repetitive station installed at Punta Santiago, and integrated into MTCC’s Nepsys system.
