Terex Port Equipment (TPE), part of Terex Corporation-owned Terex Cranes, has announced plans to restructure its Italian port equipment manufacturing operations, comprising the former Fantuzzi Industries.
Manufacturing activity at the Reggio Emilia facility will cease and production will transfer to the Monfalcone plant. There will be a significant down-sizing of the Reggio Emilia headquarter offices, which will also be relocated in the region. The headcount at the Lentigione plant will also be “aligned to market demand”.
Terex said in a statement that the restructuring activity follows an "industrial logic", focusing heavy port equipment manufacturing at a seaside location, Monfalcone, and an “economic logic” - adapting fixed costs to the cost absorption capability of the current and medium term activity level.
"The aim is to achieve more efficient, flexible and competitive operations through economic cycles," it added.
Terex acquired Fantuzzi Industries in July 2009, including Reggiane Cranes and Plants, with Italian manufacturing facilities in Reggio Emilia, Lentigione, Monfalcone and Genoa.
Terex said the restructuring is necessary to ensure the long-term success of the business for its team members, customers and suppliers.
Sources close to the company told Cargo Systems that the Fantuzzi brand name may be discontinued and replaced with Terex brand, but it is unclear whether the Reggiane name will remain in use.
TPE produces straddle carriers in Germany, ship-to-shore, RTG and mobile harbour cranes in Italy and China, container stackers, side loaders and high capacity forklifts in Italy and container stackers in France.
