The US Patent Office has awarded VeriTainer Corporation a patent for a real-time crane-mounted container scanning system. The ’338 patent utilises the twistlock signal from the real-time container monitoring system of the crane to distinguish which container is being scanned at what time and associate radiation data to a particular container.
Prior to acquiring the ’338 patent, the VeriSpreader system was rigorously tested, performing tens of thousands of scans in an operational port environment.
“VeriTainer is the only company to have run extensive and comprehensive tests in the field of crane-mounted systems,” said John Alioto, VeriTainer CEO. “The ’338 patent was born out of 15 months of intensive trials at the Port of Oakland. This patent is the first in a series of patents that will come about as a result of our Oakland trials.”
The ’338 patent is the fourth to be issued to the VeriTainer Corporation since the company was founded in 2003. In addition to the US patents issued, the company has acquired three international patents that focus on critical container ports.
“It would be very challenging to come up with a real-time method for effectively separating the scans and matching them to a container without utilising the twistlock signal,” said Matthew Alioto, VP of Engineering and co-inventor of the patent. “Seamless operation is the driving force behind the VeriSpreader technology, and the ’338 patent is based on that very key concept.
“We anticipate several new patents in the upcoming months and years. Our engineering team continues to stay on the cutting edge of crane-mounted solutions and innovation.”
