The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (Pema) has attracted three more new members. Cable producer, Nexans, control systems specialist, Advanced Microwave Engineering (AME) and sensor solutions producer Sick, are to join the association, which was established to provide a forum and public voice for the global port equipment sector.
"Pema’s continued growth indicates both a willingness and a need to work towards an improved operational framework across the industry," said Ottonel Popesco, Pema president (pictured). "We welcome our trio of new members to Pema and anticipate them becoming key players in our activities."
Nexans is a leading the cable supplier, present in 39 countries, which provides solutions for a raft of sectors including load handling in ports and terminals.
AME is a specialist provider of active transponders, safety systems and access control systems for the ports sector and a broad range of industries.
Sick is a leading producer of sensors and sensor solutions. In the port sector, the German company’s scanners help terminal operators improve safety by reducing the probability of collisions between cranes, vehicles and goods. Its products are also widely used to assist in the positioning of cranes and containers.
Pema has seen its membership expand steadily in the past year. Among companies joining in 2009 were drive systems supplier, Control Techniques, crane cabin specialist Brieda Cabins, port vehicle manufacturer Linde Heavy Trucks and port equipment and services group Portek.
